Eve Work

As you can see I have some holes to close up under the eve. I've been lucky so far and haven't had any squirrels take up residents in our attic while this has been open. It only took a couple of hours to do and it turned out pretty nice...now all I need to do is some sanding and it will be ready for some paint.

So you want a house with "Character"

For those out there that are looking for a charming old house with character on a tree lined street to buy and restore, let me give you some advice...RUN AWAY, run far away and don't look back, for God sakes don't look back!!! No seriously it can be all those things and more, you just need to realize a couple of things before taking the plung. It's going to take a lot of your time and a lot of your money (that is if you want it done right), and unless you are rich and can pay someone else to do everything (and where's the fun in that) that's the reality. My advice is to be patient; take your time and have a plan. Live in the house for awhile and let it speak to you; visualize what it could look like. What I first invisioned our house to look like is completely different than the way we are invisioning it now and I'm glad we were patient...redo's cost money. Look around the neighborhood and see what others have done and make notes. Look through magazines & books making notes on what you like and apply them to your home. Do lots of research which will save you time and money and, hopefully, help you in your decision making as you go through your restoration. Lastly enjoy the process, that's the whole point of doing it yourself. When you are finished, you will have something to be proud of and to live in. Oh, I almost forgot...try not to kill each other on purpose or by accident.
