Lunch Time!
This picture was taken at the Dallas Zoo...we have been members there for several years now and the girls absolutely love going. The Zoo has been going through there own renovations over the years and the place looks great. Neat things are happening there, so check it out! Click the Bee to see what all the buzz is about!

So you want a house with "Character"

For those out there that are looking for a charming old house with character on a tree lined street to buy and restore, let me give you some advice...RUN AWAY, run far away and don't look back, for God sakes don't look back!!! No seriously it can be all those things and more, you just need to realize a couple of things before taking the plung. It's going to take a lot of your time and a lot of your money (that is if you want it done right), and unless you are rich and can pay someone else to do everything (and where's the fun in that) that's the reality. My advice is to be patient; take your time and have a plan. Live in the house for awhile and let it speak to you; visualize what it could look like. What I first invisioned our house to look like is completely different than the way we are invisioning it now and I'm glad we were patient...redo's cost money. Look around the neighborhood and see what others have done and make notes. Look through magazines & books making notes on what you like and apply them to your home. Do lots of research which will save you time and money and, hopefully, help you in your decision making as you go through your restoration. Lastly enjoy the process, that's the whole point of doing it yourself. When you are finished, you will have something to be proud of and to live in. Oh, I almost forgot...try not to kill each other on purpose or by accident.

Then and Now

Below is the house the way it appeared when we bought it in July of 2005. As you can see the yard was in sad shape and the house itself wasn't much better. The bay window at the front did nothing for the house and needed to go.
Five years later, we have completely relandscaped the front yard, had a new roof put on, and removed the ugly bay window that didn't fit the house...restoring it back to the way it was years ago.
